Favorite restaurants | NYC

Hi friends! I woke up this morning missing the big apple so I thought why not do a post on my favorite restaurants in the city.  Ive decided to start a series of favorite restaurants in my favorite places!  I’m sure you can tell but your girl loves food! Now I haven’t been to NYC in about 3 years now, but best be sure that I will be planning a trip there this year! My sister was going to school in the city so I made sure to go up as much as I possibly could. Here are just a few of my favorites, hope you enjoy!

Jacobs Pickles | Upper West Side

So I have a slight obsession with the UWS, it’s amazing and you never know what you will find there. But Jacobs Pickles is the comfort food mecca, think southern comfort! There menu ranges from a variety of house made pickles, chicken and pancakes, poutine to shrimp and bacon grits! Great atmosphere and very large portions.
Big Daddy’s  | Upper West Side

Omg! Now I’ve only been here for brunch but trust me it’ll be so good you won’t forget it. We ordered the bacon pancakes, chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes and chocolate chip banana pancakes. Also, they have all you can drink bloody Mary’s, mimosas and screwdrivers!😳 Big daddy’s has a very retro vibe to it that I just love!

Screme Gelato Bar | Upper West Side

THIS!! Holy macaroni, this place is to die for! They have some crazy flavor combinations but I would eat every single one of them. Perfect on a warm day to cool you off in the city!

Two Boots Pizza | Upper West Side

Talk about some yummy pizza! If I could choose two foods for the rest of my life it’d be pizza and bagels! Two boots does pizza like no other it’s a combination of Louisiana and Italian pizzas. I highly recommend the night tripper!! There’s never a time I miss this place while in New York!

Bouchon Bakery | Colombus Circle

The only thing I’ve tried from here is there macarons, but trust they are huge!!
There will be a part two because let’s be honest no where does food like New York City!

Until next time!

2017 resolutions

I don’t know about you all but I suck at keeping resolutions! Like really, really suck! I’m talking about like I’ll keep it for a few days and forget about it! Haha! But this year I am dead set on them, 2016 was a poo year for me!

  1. Be healthy: I’m sure this is on the top of everybody’s list. But this time I’m about making a lifestyle change, which is hard to do being a baker! My plan is to eat more fruits and vegetables, as well as more grains! I also want to incorporate Herbalife into my diet. I have used their products and completely stand by the name! I just get lazy and let “the plan” fall through.
  2. Perfect recipes: Eventually I want to open my own bakery, I have hundreds of recipes that need to be perfected to see if they will make the cut for my bakery.
  3. Travel: I love to travel but this year I want to revisit places I haven’t been in a while first on my list will be Pasadena,CA. I know we just moved about 9 months ago from there but it’s such a beautiful place I cannot wait to go back! Second is a tie between Nyc and Philly. I’ve been to both places before but it’s been way too long!
  4. Debt: This year I really hope to pay off old debt. I want to focus on finances and create a “plan” that works for me! This also goes without saying but I would love to build my credit whilst paying off debt!
  5. Blog/YouTube: I’ve been saying it for years now but I would love to create content on YouTube (I just need the guts to do it)! But I also want to focus on this blog! I do love it, sometimes life just gets in the way and too much time passes between posts.
  6. Be truly happy: I want to find ME this year. Which I don’t think is totally possible because I think we will forever be a work in progress but I can’t wait to find more things out about myself! Also, I want to stop complaining about things. Now I’m not saying I’m a giant complainer but I want to be more go with the flow and to accept things for what they are!

Well that’s it for me, at least for now! I intend to keep you all updated with my resolutions and maybe do a monthly update to keep myself accountable! Let me know what your resolutions are and how you intend to keep them.

Until next time!

Bbq Chicken Pizza

Who doesn’t love pizza! I could most definitely eat pizza daily if I wouldn’t gain weight from it, haha! But try my recipe for bbq chicken pizza. It will surely be a hit with your family! Ingredients:

  • Red onion (bought mine diced, I was lazy this day, haha)
  • Pre-made pizza dough (set out for 1 hour to rise)
  • Bbq sauce of your choice
  • Colby jack cheese
  • Bacon; chopped (was also too lazy to cook my own)
  • Chicken; shredded
  1. First set out pizza dough to proof for 1 hour
  2. Fill a pot with water, bring to a boil. Add salt and cook chicken. Once cooked, shred chicken.
  3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees and prepare pan (I’ve sprinkled mine with flour)
  4. Now the fun part (sarcasm) stretch your dough to resemble some sort of a round shape
  5. Poke pizza with a fork to prevent bubbling, brush with olive oil
  6. Coat the pizza with bbq sauce leaving the outer ring untouched
  7. Toss on your chicken, bacon, and red onion
  8. Top with cheese and bake for 25-30 minutes

Once it comes out cool for 5 minutes, cut and serve! Hope you enjoy this recipe.

Until next time!

Hearty pot pie!

Have you ever just craved a chicken pot pie?! I live for them! But living in the Florida heat makes it a little less desirable. So when we got our first “cold front” of the season I decided it was time to whip this baby up! Be prepared this dish will be gone in seconds! If you have extra thanksgiving leftovers this would work great too! Just switch out the chicken for the turkey!

Hearty Chicken Pot Pie

  • 1 can veg-all (drained)
  • 3/4 c. dried cranberries
  • 1 1/2 c. stuffing mix
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can cream of potato soup
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped chicken
  • 1 package pie crusts
  • 1 sm. can diced potatoes (optional)
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Prepare pie crusts; soften a little bit to make pliable and set one in your pie pan.
  3. Blind bake the bottom pie crust for 12-15 minutes; either use pie weights or some dried beans that you won’t be using
  4. The mix! Add all ingredients into a large bowl and give it a good mix until it’s all incorporated. Just be careful not to crush the stuffing mix
  5. Take pie crust out of the oven and fill with your pie filling. Be careful your dish will be warm!
  6. Cover pie with remaining crust dough. This is where you can get fancy with the edges. Also don’t forget to cut slits in the center so it can breathe while baking
  7. Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes
  8. Cool for 5-10 minutes before serving and enjoy!!

Hope you all enjoy this recipe and post pictures or comments of you try this! It’s sooo good!!

Until next time

Making the most delicious cake

Edit: This post was from a year and a half ago but its a follow up to my last post (the only vanilla cake recipe you will ever need).

Soo I’m not sure if I had mentioned this before but I am in pastry school..I know terrible for my diet. But yesterday we made a traditional white layer cake (think wedding cake) with raspberry italian buttercream. It was amazing! Seriously once you make this type of buttercream you will never buy any other kind again. It is that good!

Before I arrived at class I went to this restaurant supply store called Surfas. It has everything and anything you could ever imagine. This was one of my favorite finds…Can you guess what it was?!?! GUY’S. IT. WAS. A .SPRINKLE. WALL. If I could bathe in sprinkles I would. I love sprinkles. Let’s just take a moment to bask in all of its glory.IMG_0821-0

Okay okay I’m done with my lust for sprinkles. Haha anyways so this Italian buttercream is to die for; I’ll admit yes, it is a pain in the tush but ya know what?! Totally worth it. The secret is really good quality butter, like the best European butter you can find.

Italian Buttercream

1 Lb. unsalted butter, softened
1c. sugar *reserve 1/4c.*
1/4 c. water
5 egg whites (room temp)
1/4t. cream of tartar

Dissolve sugar in the water first and then heat in a pot, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is bubbling. Stop stirring and reduce the heat to low. ( There should be NO color in the sugar/water mixture)

In the bowl of a mixer, beat the egg whites until foamy, add the cream of tartar and beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 sugar to form a meringue.

Increase the heat and boil the water/sugar mixture to 248-250 degrees (firm ball stage)

In a stead stream, add the sugar mixture to the meringue. Slowly on the side of the bowl with the mixer on low so you can slowly temper the meringue. This part is make or break for your buttercream. Once you feel the mixture is a good temperature then whip on high until the mixture is cool.

Add the butter 1 tbsp. at a time. Then add flavorings if desired.
This is the one we used at school. fruit pureeIts from France the brand is Ravifruit. Highly recommended.

Voila, that is all! This is by far the tastiest buttercream EVER, give it a try and let me know in the comments how you liked it!

Until next time!

The only Vanilla Cake recipe you will EVER need

I was on the constant search for a great easy cake recipe. One that’s good for layer cakes, but that is still flavorful and light. Well this is it ladies and gents. Look no further because your girl has got you covered!

Classic White Layer Cake

  • 1 c. milk (room temperature)
  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 c. cake flour (sifted, twice)
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 oz. butter (softened, cubed)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray two 9 in. cake pans with baking spray and cover pan bottoms with parchment paper rounds. Then spray parchment rounds with baking spray.
  3. Mix milk, egg whites, and extracts together in a bowl with a fork. Set aside.
  4. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl with an electric mixer at a slow speed. Once it looks sandy add butter. Continue beating at slow until the mixture resembles moist crumbs.
  5.  Add half of milk mixture to crumbs and beat at medium speed for 1 1/2 minutes. Add remaining milk mixture and beat for 30 seconds. Scrape bowl and mix for 20 more seconds.
  6. Divide batter evenly between cake pans and smooth tops with a rubber spatula. Bake until toothpick comes out clean, about 20-25 minutes.
  7. Let cool completely for about 1 1/2 hours.
  8. Ice, stack and enjoy!

Hope you all enjoy and let me know if you try this out!
Until next time!

Sweet & Spicy BBQ Chicken Sweet Potatoes

So I’m not sure about you but I live on the fence between
trying to make healthy choices and wanting to eat all
of the sweets. But life is all about balance, AM I RIGHT?!

balance1Anyways, on my journey to be a healthier me I decided why not add some of my favorite recipes on this blog. I obviously am going to start posting baking recipes too (which I cannot
wait for).

I am all for sweet potatoes, I would eat one  at all meals if I could. This recipe is super simple and I  use this to meal prep for the week because it is that easy and mindless to make. Also, for the sweet potatoes I buy a big microwaveable bag of them at the grocery store for $1.98 and it’ll usually last me about a week. Okay enough rambling,  on to the recipe!

Sweet & Spicy BBQ Chicken Sweet Potatoes

– 4 chicken breasts (cooked & shredded)
– 1/4 red onion
– sweet & spicy bbq sauce
– shredded carrots
– sweet potatoes

  1. First I cook and shred the chicken
  2. Chop and briefly cook the onion
  3. Steam the sweet potatoes in the microwave
  4. Toss the chicken, onion and shredded carrots in the bbq sauce
  5. Cut open sweet potatoes and top with chicken mixture

Voila! There ya have it, a super quick and easy lunch/dinner that is VERY filling.

Until next time.

Guess who’s back, back again..Brittany’s back!

Hi guys!

I totally suck at this blogging thing. But I’m back for good this time (fingers crossed) haha! I figured I’d catch you up on all that I’ve been up to. Even though my mom is probably my only viewer, Hi mom!

So lets see where to start.. I last left you guys while in California, I was in pastry school (which I highly recommend even if you’re just a home baker). I have since moved back to FL but I am missing select parts of the California lifestyle. However, not missing the traffic out there! I am really happy to be back home and able to see my friends and family.

I cannot wait to start blogging again so I figured I would come back with a collective favorites post from the time I’ve been away. I mean who doesn’t like reading about favorite things (am I right ladies?!).

  1. My beloved D&G number 6 L’Amourex Eau de Toilette: I cannot even begin where to start on this guy. If you like a more masculine but still sort of feminine smelling perfume this is for you! I don’t think that they actually sell this anymore but I did a quick google search and you can find it on ebay/amazon. It has top notes of juniper, pink pepper and bergamot. Heart notes of birch, cardamom, and orris. Base notes of woods and musk. DELICIOUS!
  2. Illume Anemone Rollerball: I got this demi perfume when kitson was closing all of the stores and it was literally the Last one of them. I seriously need to start looking for more of these. I just checked but the Illume website has a sale going on the eau de perfume. It has citrus and crisp apple notes. A very light fragrance but I’m telling you you will get a whiff of this through the day and it will just make you smile!
  3. St. Ives even and bright scrub: First of all this scrub is white with little pink scrubbing sugars in it. I mean how cute!! It smells soo yummy too like pink lemon & mandarin oranges! It also has done a really great job on making my skin nice and flake free all the while still being gentle.
  4. Ponds Nourishing moisturizer: This is literally the cheapest moisturizer EVER! And honestly I’m not sure if I’ve posted before how I wasn’t a fan of this but in California this wasn’t the best for my skin but using it in Florida its definitely working for me!
  5. Maybelline fit me concealer: This guy is the real MVP.. literally the best $6 I’ve ever spent. I cannot say enough about it! A great creamy, long wearing, non-creasing concealer.
  6. Pink eye shadow brush: I’m not totally sure about the brand of this brush but I got it in an Ipsy box and I have literally used it every single day since receiving the box!
  7. L.A. Girl pro concealer: This was another great $2.50 I spent on a contour concealer. Super blendable, obvs. affordable, tons of color options!
  8.  Budget planner and planner accessories: This planner is from michaels, it was about $3.50 they had a huge selection of them from wedding planning to fitness journals to meal planning. Perfect for your purse! Also I love pineapples/ flamingos/all things stationary.
  9. Lorac eyeshadow in Serenity: I also received this in a Sephora christmas box ( I think). It kinda just appeared in my makeup collection and I cant remember from where exactly. But I’ve been wearing it daily and it legit lasts all day long, super silky putting it on. Love love love it!

Be on the look out for my next coming posts. I want to start doing more recipes, pinterest fails and product reviews! Also, comment below for any suggestions.

Until next time.

Healthy recipes 👍

Hello friends!

As promised I am giving an update on my healthy recipes! So here is what a typical day for me looks like! 😃

I start off my morning filling up a water bottle with lemon and water to jumpstart my body. I swear this gives me more energy than any tea or coffee, highly recommended!! Then I will make a fruit/yogurt/spinach smoothie. I forgot to take pictures of this but promise I will the next time I post.

Lunch has been looking like this. I’m obsessed with this flavor combinations. Trader joes steamed lentils, baked and cubed sweet potatoes seasoned with trader joes 21 seasoning salute and finish it up with organic ground turkey and sautéed onions. I don’t even eat the onions just love the flavor it gives.

For snacks I loooove to eat frozen grapes, yellow or Fuji apples, and the nature valley fruteria bars in mango strawberry.

Then to finish the night off for dinner I have been loving a whole wheat wrap, with chipotle casaer dressing, brown rice, lentils, ground turkey and herb salad mix( which is a new discovery that I am loving)!!

Hope you all like this kind of post!
